After all, before we broach the subject that is M.2 SATA SSD vs M.2 PCI Express SSD and to a lesser extent NVMe, we need to know what the hell we are talking about first.
M.2, PCIe, NVMe, it's all very confusing to me. From what I can tell to get the fastest boot speeds and data transfers M.2 storage drives are better than regular SSD's because the SATA connection bottlenecks the SSD's.
Hi Cynthia – you are correct, not all M.2 slots are going to be the same. Some are SATA only, some are PCIe/NVMe only, and some are dual use.
The last letter is intended to specify the key, interface, and bus (dual slot cards use two letters) ... All motherboard M.2 slots are 22 mm wide, even the ones supporting 30 mm wide cards.
